Good afternoon.

We did receive and confirm the following original request to stay at our B&B as a scam. We corresponded back and forth with this “Dr. Kathleen Wallace” for several weeks, started to think her request might not be legitimate, but didn’t confirm it was a scam until we received 5 $700 US international money orders from England that were in fact counterfeit.

Upon receipt of those money orders, we also contacted the World Health Organization and no such “Dr. Kathleen Wallace” works for them and their organization does use credit cards to reserve accommodation, unlike the email from Dr. Wallace noting that the WHO did not do that, which was why she insisted on sending us money orders for the deposit. We had provided Dr. Wallace the correct Canadian amount due for her 2 week stay, and our 50% deposit to confirm her reservation at our B&B but the money orders they sent were 2 ½ times the total value owed to us, so they requested that we send the overage back to them via Western Union. There were many key indicators on the US international money orders that we received alerting us that they were counterfeit so we didn’t need to take them to our bank to confirm that. After we emailed Dr. Wallace that the money orders were fraudulent, and to please provide a credit card to confirm her reservation, as we thought, we never heard from “her” again.

What a real shame that there are so many unscrupulous people who invest time trying to scam nice B&B’s into sending them money that is not rightfully owed to them. We on certainly on alert now, having received two such bogus reservation requests in the past couple months. We forwarded the earlier one to you already. We make it perfectly clear that no reservation will be confirmed at our B&B until a guest’s credit card for our 50% deposit has cleared through Moneris, our credit card authorization & approval system.

Have a great day. Name and Name
