Southover Cottage is the home of Sheila and John Anderson. A few minutes car ride from Lewes Castle, it is nestled in a quiet and ancient settlement called Chiltington. A public bridleway and footpath to the South Downs starts at the cottage gate. The house is quite old, and is a typical Sussex cottage in the vernacular style. The upstairs rooms for our guests are in the part of the house dating back to before 1690. There are two guest bedrooms, one has a double bed, and the second, smaller room has twin beds. Original Victorian iron and brass bedsteads all round. Lots of white linen, soft pillows and cosy duvets complete the picture. Adjoining the bedrooms there is a shower room, with washbasin and toilet for the exclusive use of our guests. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in a separate area between the two guest bedrooms. Breakfast is served downstairs in a small guest dining room. Breakfasts are normally of the full traditional English variety, but can be just toast, cereals, continental or vegetarian if preferred. Craster kippers are a house speciality. Early breakfasts for early risers are always available. If four guests wish to stay at the same time, it is helpful if they are good friends, or a family because access to the twin room is via the double! In other respects, the house is pretty normal, and the hosts are friendly and helpful. Rates are £55.00 and £65.00 per night for each room (double occupancy). |
