For years this beautiful Arts & Crafts style country manor was hidden from view, known only to the private guests and students of its artist/owner Norma Safford. Originally dating to 1832 Meademere, as it was known, was renovated in the early 1900’s. The mahogany woodwork and cobblestone fireplace, like the stonewalls throughout the grounds, bear the marks of durable New England craftsmanship. Lovingly adapted to a Bed & Breakfast, it now boasts four rooms all having private baths with heated marble floors. Each is furnished with antiques and tartan plaids. One room is fully accessible and some have fireplaces. Homemade jams and marmalades, woodcarvings, baskets and other crafts made by your hosts are available in their gift shop. Outside, 10 acres of gardens, woods and ponds beckon to you from the parlor window seat. Guests are treated to a full gourmet breakfast highlighted by Meg’s scratch-baked muffins or (best you’ve ever tasted) scones. Whether you have come to climb Mt. Monadnock or to explore a local antique shop your stay will be the essence of comfort at the Inn of the Tartan Fox. |
