Directions: How you may reach the Island of Capri
FROM NAPLES...
If you arrive by train,…
After you have arrived by train at Napoli-Centrale (or Piazza Garibaldi) Railway Station, take tram no 1. or a bus to Piazza Municipio. Either taking Via Marina or Corso Umberto I, you will arrive at Piazza Municipio on the waterfront. Beverello Harbour -the main harbour for the sea-connections in the Gulf of Naples- is within walking distance of the square.
The taxis are outside the terminal. Fares are calculated by use of a meter which must be activated. From Beverello Harbour you can catch one of the regular ferries or jetfoils for Capri.
The companies are the following: Caremar (ferries and jetfoils), SNAV (jetfoils and catamarans) and Navigazione Libera del Golfo (jetfoils only).
If your train arrives at Mergellina Railway Station, we suggest that you reach Mergellina Harbour, which is located near Piazza Sannazaro.
From this harbour, regular SNAV jetfoils and catamarans leave for Capri.
From Mergellina Railway Station you may reach the harbour in about 10 minutes' walk. For this reason, we suggest that you take a taxi only if you have several pieces of luggage with you.
If you arrive by car, …….
On the motorway, past the toll-collector's cabin of Naples (coming from Rome), follow the signs indicating "Porto" and "Zona Portuale". After about 20 minutes -driving along Via Marina- you will reach Beverello Harbour, near Piazza Municipio.
If you want to bring your car to Capri from March to October, or from 20th December to 7th January, please, read the regulation in force about the Prohibition.
However, we suggest that you do not bring your car onto the island, since the roads suitable for vehicles are few and narrow.
If you arrive by plane, …..
The airport of Capodichino in Naples is a few miles from the city centre. Regular buses (ALIBUS) both from the airport and from Piazza Municipio (near the port). The taxis are outside the terminal. The charge is automatically calculated by the taximeter.
FROM SORRENTO...
From the town of Sorrento you may reach the island by regular jetfoils and ferries leaving from Marina Piccola. The ship companies are the following: Caremar (fast ferries) and Consorzio Linee Marittime Partenopee (ferries, catamarans and jetfoils).
If you want to bring your car to Capri from March to October, or from 20th December to 7th January, please, read the regulation in force about the Prohibition.
However, we suggest that you do not bring your car onto the island, since the roads suitable for vehicles are few and narrow.

The French placed a cannon in the strategic location of this plateau in 1808 to defend the island’s southern sector. In the 20th century, and during the period of residence of the numerous colony of German painters who stopped here to paint, it was known as Malerplatte (Painters’Square).
Capri: The Gardens of Augustus - Via Krupp - Certosa - Tragara
The Gardens of Augustus are only few minutes’ walk from the Piazzetta, near the Via Krupp, the road which was the idea of A. F. Krupp, the German steel industrialist, who –for this end- purchased the “Fondo Certosa” (Certosa Estate), on a part of which rise the Gardens.
