St Raphael Guest House is located in a quiet cul-de-sac, just a stone's throw away from "Bootham Bar", the ancient gateway into the very heart of historic York.

York's most famous attractions are all within 5 minutes walk: York Minster (the largest Gothic cathedral north of the Alps); The Shambles; The "Flying Scotsman" & National Railway Museum; St Mary's Abbey; Roman Multangular Tower; The King's Manor; Treasurer's House; St William's College; Yorvik Viking City; York Dungeon; Merchant Adventurers' Hall; York Art Gallery; River Ouse Cruises; Yorkshire Museum; and a host of medieval churches, restaurants, theatres, chic caf¨¦s, quaint shops, and old haunted pubs!

"Bootham Bar" is the most historic of York's medieval gateways. It is built on top of the "Porta Principalis Dextra", main entrance to the Roman military headquarters of Eboracum. To conquer the northern tribes, Roman emperors marched their legions out of the gateway, and within a few metres of the St Raphael Guest House. Close your eyes, dream, and you might hear the pounding of Roman feet!
