Driving
Directions: The town of Bancroft is noted on all Ontario and Canada road maps. From Bancroft take Highway 28 East for approximately 25 km (a 15-20 minute scenic drive). We are in the village of McArthurs Mills. There is a bridge over the Little Mississippi River. Our driveway is the first one across the bridge on the right side (Southeast side of the river); municipal number 35556. (As my Mom used to say... cross the river and drop in!!) You will see the sign for Dreamer’s Rock Bed and Breakfast. |
Local Area
Attractions: Bancroft and Area (The Mineral Capital of Canada and recently chosen by TVO as the "Most Talented Town in Ontario!")
• Rich in scenic beauty, the Bancroft area also offers: live theatre, golf, spas, quality gift shops.
• Eagles Nest lookout - 150 metre-high - offers a spectacular view of the York River Valley and surrounding countryside; the Hawk Watch platform provides a comfortable spot for bird watching.
• Egan Chute - tumbling waterfall with steep rock sides. Feel the spray and listen to the roar as the York River rushes over the rocks of the Chute.
• Summer Playhouse Theatre - live theatre all summer long
• Rockhound Gemboree - world famous for over 40 years, first weekend in August
• Minerals and gemstones - year round good collecting and quality mineral shops; a unique geological history has created this region - famous for its wide variety of mineral species. Visitors from all over the globe are attracted to the rugged beauty of this area of the Canadian Shield. Don't miss the Princess Sodalite mine - say hello to owner and our friend Andy Christie.
• See our display of Sodalite - a mineral that possesses a beautiful blue colour. It is used for carvings, jewellery pieces and is quite well known in the semi precious stone trade. The colour ranges from royal blue to light blue. Sodalite is relatively rare since there are only three large deposits known in the world - one of them right here near to Bancroft! Sodalite is believed to aid cooling and drawing infections, burns, sinus inflammations and opening the throat chakra. Spiritually, it helps stimulate courage and endurance and releases subconscious fears and guilt.
• Be sure to visit our Mineral museum, Art Gallery, and local Museum at the Bancroft Chamber of Commerce location.
• Explore Ontario's wilderness in nearby Algonquin Park's vast interior of maple hills, rocky ridges and thousands of lakes. You can take part in extensive education programs and visit Algonquin's superlative Visitor Centre and the Logging Museum.
• The Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve borders Algonquin Park to the South. It features wilderness adventure activities including the Wolf Centre, Walk in the Clouds forest canopy tour, mountain biking, astronomy and wildlife observation, and the new lake viewing submarine!
• Minutes from our B&B is an Elk Sanctuary where deer and elk abound. Chances of sightings are good to excellent. |
