Local Area
Attractions: Ballylickey, on the water's edge, lies in the heart of the Gulf Stream belt of Southern Ireland and is one of the most sought after areas where both flora and fauna illustrate the natural beauty of the area. Bantry Bay and the Mountain scenery running down to the water's edge may be fully appreciated here.
Aran-Lodge is situated directly across the road from the “Ouvane Falls Hotel” with its cosy bar and restaurant and, within 50m and 100m from two of Irelands top class country hotels and restaurants, “Ballylickey Manor House” and “Seaview House” respectively.
The waters of Bantry Bay and the Ouvane River are literally a stones-throw away.
We are 1km from Snave, a local beach suitable for bathing, and just metres from a productive Salmon and Sea Trout River with many other Rivers and Lakes nearby. The mountains and lakes of Gougane Barra are but 18 Km away (the source of the River Lee), with County Cork's highest mountain, Knockboy looking down on us from the rear. To the West are Glengarriff and the rugged Beara Peninsula.
Aran-Lodge is in an area of breathtaking views ideal for relaxation, angling and hill walking to mention but a few activities. A relaxing visit to “Bantry House” is a must. Add to this the Golf Courses of Bantry and Glengarriff; the Riding Stables, the first class Restaurants, specialising in fresh seafood and the hotels of the lively seaside towns of Bantry and Glengarriff. They are all within a five to ten minutes drive. While in the area, one must visit the Italian and subtropical gardens on Garnish Island in Glengarriff. The Bamboo Park nearby and the gardens of Larch-wood House the very popular restaurant which is just 3Km from here are also worth a visit. In fact this whole area is a gardeners paradise, having some exotic species that thrive in this beautiful West Cork location due to the special mild Gulf Stream climate. In deed many of our guests feeling so relaxed here have stayed longer than they had originally planned. We now have many regulars and repeat visitors making us more of a destination than a stopover.
You can hire bicycles for a closer look at the sights along our quiet country roads, or for a slower pace there are plenty of country, mountain and shoreline walks, and of course there is always golf for those who enjoy walking with a purpose.
Aran-Lodge is also the ideal central base for touring the Cork and Kerry peninsulas with Kenmare and Killarney on the Famous “Ring of Kerry” just 30 and 50 minutes to the North, and “Mizen Head” and “Fastnet Rock Lighthouse” 40 minutes to the South. Castletownbere and “Dursey Island” are 30 & 50 minutes to the West. Blarney with its world famous “Blarney Castle” and magical “Blarney Stone” of eloquence is just over an hour to the North East
