Great Oaks Manor is a historic bed and breakfast ideally situated just minutes away from the Sugar Land business hub, corporate offices and acute care hospitals. Downtown Houston is just 23 miles to the north of Great Oaks Manor via the 59 freeway. Located just on the edge of Greatwood in Sugar Land, Great Oaks Manor is also just three minutes from the Greatwood Golf Course, which is a championship eighteen hole course open to the public 7 days a week. (Click here for area website links) This restored turn of the century Sugar Land bed and breakfast is perfect whether guests desire the perfect location to relax after a hectic business day or simply want a restful getaway. Great Oaks Manor features six unique and sumptuous guest bedrooms and baths, as well as a gourmet breakfast and unique wedding packages.Common areas are abundant in Great Oaks Manor, with the grand foyer, library, parlor, formal dining room, two verandahs and gardens always available for guest's enjoyment. Fine quality bath products, luxurious fluffy cotton towels, and spa robes make guests feel pampered. This three story mansion is resplendent in period architectural details, including massive Corinthian columns flanking the front porch steps, original vintage moldings, oak floors, soaring 12 foot ceilings on the first floor, and a sweeping carved oak staircase accented with stunning original stained glass windows that shine into the stately foyer. There are six fireplaces with original wood or marble mantles to provide the perfect ambience in the manor. The house is steeped in colorful Texas history. It was built by Clement Newton Bassett, who in 1861 became one of Terry's Texas Rangers, the eighth Texas Cavalry in the Civil War. |

Directions: If you are looking up our address on Mapquest, etc, our post office is Richmond, even though we are in Sugar Land. So the address to look up is 419 Macek Rd, Richmond, TX. 77469 (Our driveway is actually on Rabbs Crossing, not Macek Rd)
From Bush Intercontinental Airport, and North Houston:
Follow signs and get onto Beltway 8/West Sam Houston Parkway. Stay on the tollway 34 miles (three tollbooths). Exit Hwy 59 South. Then follow General Directions below.
OR from most locations around Houston:
Get onto Beltway 8 or 610 Loop and follow it to the Hwy 59 South exit. OR, Get onto 59 South, go south through Houston and follow General Directions below.
General Directions:
Stay on 59 South past the Sugar Land exits. You will go past Sugar Creek, Sweetwater, First Colony and University exits. The next exit is Grand Parkway. Take Grand Parkway exit, go left (Southeast) over the freeway and go straight. You will be on Crabb River Road/2759. At the 2nd light, (CVS Pharmacy) turn left onto Sansbury. At Greatwood Parkway (Susanna Dickinson school) turn right. The second right (no stop sign) is called Rabbs Crossing, but the big stone sign says Greatwood Crossing, turn right. Go through 2 stop signs. When you see the third stop sign, but before you get to it, Great Oaks Manor should be on your right. (Our driveway is actually on Rabbs Crossing, not Macek Rd)

Attractions: Brazos Bend State Park
Oak trees and lakes are plentiful in these 4,897 acres of Brazos River bottomlands. Among the wildlife are whitetail deer, coyotes, waterfowl and alligators. Facilities include screened shelters, a recreation hall, restrooms, showers, picnic areas, fishing, nature trails and campgrounds.

Challenger Center
The Fort Bend Challenger Center, located at Brazos Bend State Park, is a living memorial to the seven Challenger astronauts who lost their lives in 1986. The facility is maintained and operated by the Houston Museum of Natural Science and is linked to the George Observatory, Burke Baker Planetarium and the Challenger Center at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Summer programs, special events and classes are available to scouts, school children and others at the facility.

George Observatory
Located in Brazos Bend State Park, the observatory has a 36-inch wide telescope, the largest in the nation available for public use. School groups and other tours are welcome.

George Ranch Historical Park
The George Ranch Historical Park shares with visitors the compelling drama of four generations of Texas ranchers. In a relaxed, rural setting, guests have the unique opportunity to interact with people portraying the families that lived on this land through the years - from pioneer settlers to genuine cowboys and many more. Visitors to the Ranch step back in time and engage the past, witnessing the hardships and triumphs of typical Texans. Interpretations include an 1830s stock farm, an 1890s era with sharecropper farm, blacksmith and cowboy chuckwagon along with the splendor of the Victorian Davis House, and a 1930s ranching and cattle working program. The George Ranch Historical Park provides fun and insightful programs that create shared memories visitors will relive again and again. Annual events include Texian Market Days each October and Campfire Christmas among others. This living history park is open daily.
