Driving Directions: From Auckland follow directions north on STATE HIGHWAY 1, SIGNPOSTED TO WHANGAREI.STATE HIGHWAY 1. (MOTORWAY) WILL LEAD INTO 1A. FOLLOW SIGNS 1A Approx 2 hours drive you will find LOOKOUT CAFÉ on your LEFT HAND SIDE, on top of the hill, superb views and ideal for a comfort break. At KAWAKAWA stay on S.H.1. turning left, (the tourist signs and route will direct you straight on). KAWAKAWA has a train track down the middle of the main street, look out for the run-a-way train !!!.From KAWAKAWA zero your odometer, in 13 kilometre’s turn right, (Pakaraka Junction) Zero your odometer, in 7 kilometre’s turn right (Puketona Junction)Appledore Lodge is 6 kilometre’s on your left-hand side, look for the BLUE & YELLOW sign.
