A Room With A View

What a pleasant place in which to hangout . . . while scouting Vancouver for the possibility of moving here (oh great, another American import). The spacious, off-square Otter Suite was a treat . . . and those VIEWS; the expansive windows fronting harbour and mountain.

Breakfast every morning was a combination of tasty treats, spicy conversation, and yet more amazing views out the wrap-around windows. For example:

Day 1: Eggs Benedict, combined with warm stories about living in Thailand, while light snow salted down over the Indian Arm.

Day 2: French Toast & Berries. Fresh coffee was continually poured whilst we poured over a local map during a helpful briefing on nearby places to visit. Outside, near the town dock, the Polar Bear Swim Club finished their morning dip in the Cove.

Day 3: Scrambled Eggs A La Denise, served with sausage and a lively slice of discussion about alternative medicine plus a side helping of Edgar Casey. Meanwhile, the sky was clearing on the morning before a hike up the local hillsides into the rainforest.

Days 4 – 13: Different menus, varied topics, and ever-changing views. . . Get Noulan going on talking about global warming. My contribution was to mention the recent discovery that the polar icecaps on Mars are also melting/evaporating (according to NASA) – think about what THAT implies (no, not that Martians need to switch to solar energy). Get Denise going on clairvoyance and alternative healing techniques. I mentioned that I use the first whenever I visit a casino, and the 2nd is needed AFTER the visit to the casino.

Particularly enjoyable was the iced scotch on a crisp clear evening in the hot tub on the deck; stars and a full moon glinting off the water, (and of course, with another gorgeous view; twinkling town lights at night).
The two suits had their own entrances, were quite private, well equipped, and self-contained. Good cell phone and hi-speed internet connections (even a computer in your room if you need it), make it easy to get some business done or just surf the net. The location, hosts, and high quality of the B&B and surroundings were a worthwhile tradeoff for the 20-30 minute drive into Vancouver, depending on traffic and destination. Deep Cove itself is worth a bit of exploring, with several restaurants, a number of shops and supplies within walking distance.

If you want a quick fix of Canadian wilderness, take an hour and a half hike up the nearby Baden Powel Trail. The far point is a rocky outcrop with a great (wait for it . . .) view of the harbour. It was a bit dark and misty when I stated out. But just when arriving at the viewing (tiring of this word yet . . . I never did.) area, the sky cleared and here comes another fan-(oh good grief)-tastic and magical v_ _w of . . . well, go and see for yourself.
