Local Area
Attractions: Just 35 miles from Mountain View is the bustling seaside town of Ballybunnion, a real must for families. It has miles of safe "blue flag" sandy beaches with facinating rockpools to explore. On the cliff walk you might see dolphins if you are lucky. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, bars, traditional seaside amusements plus a large playground for children. In Kerry you can also avail of seal/dolphin watching trips, pony trekking, diving & also surfing. Killarney & Tralee are less than 1 hrs drive.
Nearby, for a family day out is Liscarrol Donkey Sanctuary (free entry) where you can stroke the friendly donkeys. Near Castleisland are the spectacular Crag Caves which now have a restaurant, gift shop & a large ball pond play area for children.
A visit to Cork City itself is must, it is about 50 mins drive or there are regular buses/trains from Mallow. A vast array of shops & restaurants await the visitor. What about a visit in October during the world famous Guinness Jazz Festival ? More information is available on the Link to Cork/Kerry tourism. If you fancy kissing the Blarney stone, Blarney Castle is just a few minutes from Cork with regular coaches trips from the city.
Killarney is approx 45 min drive, with the breathtaking Ring of Kerry and Dingle just beyond.
The River Blackwater, with its world renouned salmon fishing, is a 20 minute drive away as is the River Feale just north over into Kerry. Golfers will no doubt be familiar with the vast array of 18 hole courses in the Cork/Kerry region & Mountain View is an ideal base for playing several courses; Macroom, Kanturk, Charleville, Mallow, Cork, Ballinamona, Blarney, Beaufort & the famous links course at Ballybunnion being just a few.
Millstreet Country Park is a vast 500 acre park set against the backdrop of Musheramore Mountains. Here you can find true wilderness: cascading waterfalls & lakes are home to brown trout & otters.

We are close to the Mullaghareirk Mountains. Bird watchers, botanists & naturalists will be delighted with with superb flora & fauna. We are near several conifer plantations & blanket peat bogs. Hen harriers, ravens & dippers breed locally. Hares, stoats & badgers are also seen, as are secretive red squirrels which are present in Island Wood. This is a large mature wood with trails, river walks & a picturesque picnic area. Dogs can be walked off the lead & it is suitable for buggies/wheelchairs in some parts.
