Mountain View is one of the few pet friendly B&Bs in SW Ireland, just 5 minutes drive from the town of Newmarket, Co. Cork. We offer a choice of breakfasts including GF, vegetarian & vegan options. Plenty to see & do in the local area. Find us on Facebook!

We have 2 spacious en-suite guest rooms & can accommodate 5 adults + extra children. We have a groundfloor (downstairs) room with kingsize bed, walk-in-wardrobe & easy chair. Upstairs we have an equally spacious room with 3 single beds. Both rooms have scenic countryside views, colour TV, dressing table, alarm clock radio & hospitality tray. A travel cot & fold out guest bed are also available for use in either room we also have a high chair for toddlers.

Newmarket & nearby Kanturk have a good selection of shops & several places to eat out. Music at Scullys Bar in Newmarket on Monday nights, Bobs Bar in Kanturk serves great food & has traditional Irish music sessions every Sunday evening. Kanturk has a 3 screen cinema & large riverside park with playground.

Driving Directions: We are located 2.7 miles from Newmarket, Co. Cork, on the R576 road to Rockchapel. Roughly 3hr drive from Dublin airport/ferry port, 75 mins drive from Shannon airport & Cork Airport/ferry port, 45 min from Kerry International airport & 3 hrs from Rosslare. Very limited public transport locally & one taxi (sometimes) so you will need a car (or bike) to enjoy your holiday. We have ample off road parking.

Local Area Attractions: We are an ideal base for exploring the SW of Ireland being <1hr from many of the area's most famous tourist attractions including Blarney Castle where you can kiss the famous Blarney stone & also Cork City. A great family day out is Liscarroll Donkey Sanctuary (free entry, dogs welcome on leads) where you can stroke the rescued donkeys & enjoy a packed lunch in the picnic area. Also nearby Donerallie Park with herds of deer, picturesque lakes/rivers & acres of parkland to explore. Also great for families is Crag Caves, take a guided tour down into the facinating cave system. New restaurant, large gift shop & a superb ball pond play area for younger children. Tralee & Killarney are also <1hr drive. Killarney is the start of the Ring of Kerry. Visit Muckross House & Working farm with Torc Waterfall nearby. Tralee has Blennerville Windmill & the Aquadome swimming complex with watershutes/slides. Aqua-golf in the summer. Multiplex cinema next door. Great bird watching on the estuary. Golfers will no doubt be familiar with the vast array of 18 hole courses in the Cork/Kerry region & we are an ideal base for playing several courses; Macroom, Kanturk, Charleville, Mallow, Cork, Ballinamona, Blarney, Beaufort & the famous links course at Ballybunnion are all <1hr drive. Millstreet Country Park is well worth a visit. This is a vast 500 acre park set against the backdrop of Musheramore Mountains. Here you can find true wilderness: cascading waterfalls & lakes are home to brown trout & otters. Hares are seen regularly & Merlin flit over the heather. New restaurant opened in 2010. You can take a little bus to the high reaches of the park. Just 35 miles from Mountain View is the bustling seaside town of Ballybunnion, a real must for families. It has miles of safe "blue flag" sandy beaches with facinating rockpools to explore. On the cliff walk you might see dolphins if you are lucky. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, bars, traditional seaside amusements plus a large playground for children. We have 3 waymarked walking trails within a 15 mile radius incl. Mt Hilary, The Mullaghareirk mountains & the sourc of the River Blackwater. Leaflets available to borrow, we offer a packed lunch menu with free flask fill (bring your own flask)

Onsite Activities: Newmarket has a town park with tennis courts (free). Kanturk Castle is just a short drive away as is Banteer Park. We are close to the Mullaghareirk Mountains. Bird watchers, botanists & naturalists will be delighted with with superb flora & fauna. We are near several conifer plantations & blanket peat bogs. Hen harriers, merlin, ravens & dippers breed locally. Hares are also seen, as are secretive red squirrels which breed in Island Wood. This is a large mature wood with trails, river walks & a small picnic area. Dogs can be walked off the lead & it is suitable for buggies/wheelchairs in some parts. We have our own chickens. Children are welcome to feed them & collect eggs under supervision & hold chicks if we have them. We have 3 beehives & produce our own honey.
