MOUNTAINS TO PRAIRIES BED AND BREAKFAST (M2P) is located in Hill City advantageously close to the center of the Black Hills National Forest, near South Dakota’s great attractions, including Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, Custer State Park, Wind Cave National Park, Jewel Cave National Monument, mountain lakes and spectacular scenic drives—Needles Highway and Iron Mountain Road (Pigtail Highway), to name two.

Black Hills Central Railroad's 1880 TRAIN is in Hill City, as well as access to the GEORGE S. MICKELSON TRAIL, excellent for hiking, running and biking. The inn is a brief walk to everything Hill City offers, less than two blocks to historic downtown, presenting a variety of dining experiences, fine art and specialty shops.

THREE DISTINCTIVE SUITES are available to welcome M2P guests. A hand-crafted log stairway leads to the log-accented suite (named after the German mother of the hostess), Bluma Madle. The suite has a front sitting area with a desk and a log loft Bear Den for sleepy kid campers; while the comfortable master room has other welcoming amenities, such as airjet bathtub and additional comfortable seating. The knotty pine suite (named after the southern mother of the host), Chessie Lee’s Peas, has a personal entrance, bay view pellet stove, loveseat and a cozy Nook with cypress twin bed, handy for a youngster or an adult. This suite lodges up to five guests when the optional Tree House Loft, with a half bath, is used. Another convenience is the extra vanity, outside of the main level full bath, for a total of three vanities in this suite. The third suite is knotty pine and cabin-style, Prairie Homestead, also affectionately known as Little Prairie Cabin. This suite, like Chessie Lee's Peas, has a personal entrance and a twin bed Nook (...with an overhead short loft for little ones), plus a deck, loveseat, beautiful copper sink embossed with wild flowers and other interesting features reminiscent of early prairie life. And, it has a nice new kitchenette.

ALL THREE SUITES have private full baths, antique/unique furnishings, queen pillowtop beds, satellite hd tv/dvd/vcr, refrigerator, microwave, wireless internet, cove heat and AC, plus ceiling fans. In the Bluma Madle Suite, the AC is in the master room and the ceiling fan is in the front sitting area/Bear Den.

Under the same roof with M2P, we have Smiling Bear ANTIQUES Shop and Smiling Bear ESPRESSO BAR—both are popular amenities!

ABOUT BREAKFAST - A full, tasty, nutritious sit-down breakfast is served Mon., Tues., Thurs., Fri., Sat. between 8:15-8:45 a.m. A less elaborate yet satisfying continental-style breakfast is provided in guestrooms the prior evening for Wed. and Sun. Local Area Attractions: Art lovers are thrilled with the selections available on Main Street, Hill City, with Jon Crane Watercolors a highlight, as well as Art Forms where works of local and area artists are attractively presented. The Black Hills Institute of Geological Research has a world-class dinosaur museum, and children love to dig into their Everything Prehistoric Gift Shop. Many visitors take a leap into the past—All aboard the 1880 Train! It is a must for buffs of the Old West. The tracks of the train parallel Old Hill City Road, allowing the train to connect Keystone with Hill City, chugging and puffing along the way. For those who prefer to do their own huffing and puffing—hikers, runners and bikers enjoy the satisfaction of quality time spent on the George S. Mickelson Trail (rails to trails), a nostalgic reminder of the late 1800's railroad and mining days when Hill City was first settled. Following that vein, Wades Gold Mill is very close to Hill City on Deerfield Road. At the Mill, you will be rewarded with a wealth of historical information, and even have the chance to try your hand at gold panning. The Mill demonstrates the gold mining and processing techniques of the Gold Rush days. Custer State Park features the Wildlife Loop where wild burros nuzzle your vehicle windows, buffalo herds still roam (where the antelope play), and prairie dogs scamper. For a cool descent into the earth, options include Wind Cave, Jewel Cave and Rushmore Cave. For a warm dip, Evans Plunge in Hot Springs is just the thing. Many excellent family attractions are handy to M2P, such as Bear Country USA and Reptile Gardens. Catering to little kid entertainment, try Flintstone's Bedrock City in Custer or Old MacDonald's Farm between Hill City and Rapid City. Other Black Hills offerings include the scenic Cathedral Spires of the Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway. Massive granite vistas and breathtaking wilderness trails, particularly in the Harney Peak area near Sylvan Lake, including Sunday Gulch and Little Devil's Tower, offer exciting outdoor photography and adventure opportunities. Don't miss wandering into the Black Elk Wilderness! Or, for those inclined to more leisurely pastimes, hunting antiques is a rewarding one, and as close as our own SMILING BEAR ANTIQUES, sharing the same roof with M2P. When you are famished from the day's activities, nearby Cowboy Dinner and Music Shows will fill you up and entertain you throughout the evening . . . not to forget the Black Hills Playhouse near Center Lake, another evening favorite. As long as there are visitors to these beautiful Black Hills there will be as many diverse ways to experience them. - And that is just a sampling of what there is to see and do.
