"The Victoria Inn, an authentic century-old country inn beckons from the magnificent Northumberland Hills overlooking the waters, islands and stupendous sunsets of Rice Lake, in southern Ontario. The Victoria Inn is the perfect oasis for peace and tranquility, whether lounging by the outdoor pool and patio deck overlooking Rice Lake in the summer or enjoying the cozy peacefulness of an inviting fireplace in in your own private room and the stress-release of a whirlpool. The history of Gore's Landing and the Victoria Inn - Gore's Landing was named after Thomas Gores, an Irishman who settled in the vicinity in 1845. The Landing was the terminal point for a plank road from Cobourg to Rice Lake. Several renowned personages have been residents including: Archibald Lampman (poet), J.D. Kelly (historical artist), G.S. Hayward (miniaturist painter), Catherine Parr Traill (writer). The Landing continues to attract artisans, poets and writers and serves as a link to the heritage of Ontario's past. The Inn was erected in 1902 as 'The Willows', private summer residence of Gerald S. Hayward, one of Canada's most prolific and finest miniature portrait painters. His career took him around the world, painting royalty and other persons of note. Come and celebrate the 100th birthday of his waterfront estate, see the turret room and atypical roof line, stained glass windows, mission architecture, gardens, the stone-church nearby and the legacy he left for all to enjoy. The Victoria Inn makes a great location or retreat for business meetings, workshops, and receptions up to 50 people - any day of the week. Just 80 miles east of Toronto! Complete wedding packages are available, from ceremony to reception, accommodations for the honeymoon couple and their guests - all at one location. Victoria Inn offers excellent country cooking with special menus designed for weddings or group functions. (See the special sailing honeymoon package.) The atmosphere and beauty of the Inn and its surrounding countryside makes it an excellent forum for special events ranging from art exhibitions, literary readings, wellness seminars, concerts to car rallies."
