"While in beautiful historic Barkerville, why not overnight in the heart of town and have the place to yourselves? The St. George provides visitors with the unique opportunity to spend the night in the authentic gold rush town, something few visitors get to experience. Window shop, go out for dinner, pan for gold, visit the Theater Royal, or amble down Main Street. Once you're finished, relax on a bench and feel the presence of goldseekers and adventurers long gone. The building was constructed in 1898 by the Johnson Brothers of Quesnel on the site of an earlier hotel and saloon, the St. Georges'. During the 1930's it was known as the Nicol Hotel. Between 1922 and 1930 the Madam Bendixon Building to the north was constructed and the two buildings were connected together. Today the St. George has been extensively renovated into an exceptionally comfortable bed and breakfast inn. " |
