"Haig-Brown House is the former residence of Ann and Roderick Haig-Brown, conservationists, community activists and thinkers. The c. 1923 house and its surrounding 20 riverfront acres of gardens and woodlands provides an excellent venue for a stay, for a talk, for a seminar. The House and grounds offer a fascinating picture of the busy practical and intellectual lives of the Haig-Brown's, and of the changes that they faced during their stay here, from 1936 when they bought the property to 1976 when Roderick died of a sudden heart attack. Roderick Haig-Brown was an acclaimed author, pioneering conservationist, community leader, magistrate and flyfisher. His writing - 25 different books and well over 200 articles and speeches - was pivotal in the preservation of the salmon on the West Coast, and has influenced a generation of fisheries biologists, ecologists and others interested in the evolving relationship between people and nature. The Haig-Brown House Education Centre is a B&B, a museum, a seminar centre, with the goal of preserving and telling the Haig-Brown story.
