" Jasmine Cottage Bed & Breakfast, Gray's Retreat, & the Barn Loft Lodgings on the Old Point Reyes Schoolhouse Compound Point Reyes Station, California View of the Point Reyes Peninsula from the Old Point Reyes Schoolhouse Compound above the fog "Artists are doubling as innkeepers all over Point Reyes these days. Artist Karen Gray's [compound] is... a hideaway in a sweet setting amid flower and herb gardens and fruit trees" - Travel & Leisure Magazine The Old Point Reyes Schoolhouse Compound History The Old Schoolhouse Compound borders an open pasture and sits at the top of the hill just above the tiny town of Point Reyes Station. Settled into this pastoral spot, the compound is quiet and peaceful, yet just an easy five minute walk down to the village. Even though the compound is just a few minutes drive from Inverness; the weather is very different. Point Reyes Station basks in the sunshine afforded by its place on the inland shores of Tomales Bay where the Point Reyes Peninsula acts as a shelter from the ocean fog all year. Artist and landscape architect, Karen Gray, settled in Point Reyes twenty-five years ago when she moved into the historic Point Reyes Schoolhouse built in 1878, which she refurbished as her private home. Around 1980 she remodeled the carriage house and opened Jasmine Cottage, the first bed and breakfast cottage in Point Reyes. At first the guests in Jasmine Cottage , bed & breakfast, were exclusively lovers of wilderness like the proprietor, visiting the Point Reyes National Seashore: hikers, bird watchers, and naturalists of all stripes seeking a retreat from the city. Since then, the beautiful Point Reyes area has become widely known for the charming old western town of Point Reyes Station, as a place for enjoying gourmet food, as a peaceful home base for visiting the wine country, as a touring area for kayakers and bicyclists and as a region for farming of all kinds. Private Entry Garden for Jasmine Cottage The Old Point Reyes Schoolhouse Compound grew to include Gray's Retreat , (the owner's family retreat house - often open for guests to rent) a vacation rental, the Barn Loft (a small hide-away with the most spectacular views on the property,) and the Shepherd's Wagon , an antique sheep camp that provides 1 double bed and 2 bench beds with a game table. The wagon may be rented as an adventurous addition to Gray's Retreat. In addition, there is also a beautiful bordered lawn for ceremonies and gatherings nestled into the gardens. A stay on the Old Point Reyes Schoolhouse Compound offers a wonderful experience for both children and adults alike. If guests cannot bear to leave the other family member at home, perfectly behaved pets are allowed by prior arrangement. " |
