"Aloha and Welcome to Ala Kai, a bed & breakfast by the sea. We are located between Kea'au and Pahoa, a scenic 17 mile drive south of the Big Island of Hawaii's Hilo airport toward Volcanoes National Park. Ala Kai, in Hawaiian, means by the sea or road by the sea. Once you see our beautiful home, you will understand why we chose that name. For the early risers, we invite you to start your day with the often-spectacular sunrise on the ocean. Then, enjoy a full leisurely breakfast featuring island fruits, Kona coffee, tea, juices and local delicacies. Stroll along the oceanfront, hike through the rainforest, observe active volcanoes or delight in the exotic flowers of Hilo¡¯s market. Be sure to relax on our wraparound lanai to enjoy the ocean breezes, read your favorite book or watch the whales from December through April. Then allow the tranquil sounds of the ocean and palm trees lull you to sleep in one of two guestrooms in the main house. If you desire more seclusion, the Ohana (cottage) is a 2-bedroom self-catering vacation rental with a fully equipped kitchen and its own lanai. "
