A stay at the Bertram Inn, a premier bed and breakfast, offers one the opportunity to step back into another era. Built in 1907 by a wealthy tobacco merchant, the Inn was given to his daughter as a wedding present. The grand sweeping staircase, quarter-sawn oak paneling, leaded windows, fireplaces and abundant gardens create an ideal setting for a bed and breakfast. The Bertram Inn serves as an oasis from the hustle of downtown Boston. Located two miles from the heart of Boston and one block from public transportation, guests are able to remain close to the cultural and business centers of Boston yet return to the tranquility of a bed and breakfast. The staff is always welcoming and offers fresh baked cookies and warm hospitality after a busy day of work or sight-seeing in Boston's many places of interest. After a peaceful sleep in the finest plush beds, the large living room becomes a cheerful breakfast room where a hearty breakfast of pancakes, waffles, omelets or quiches are accompanied by muffins, cereals, pastries and fresh fruits served in front of a crackling fire. And for the remainder of the day, this cozy retreat provides a place where guests can read, relax and treat themselves to complimentary snacks, fresh-baked cookies and a cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Season permitting, guests may also choose to enjoy breakfast or their afternoon treats on the classic front porch overlooking the garden. The present-day owner, Bryan Austin, a local Bostonian, and his wonderful staff, can help you with reseravtions, planning, or offer ideas of places to visit. If you are in Boston and wish to avoid the city, they can assist you with ideas to relax and rest as you visit places only locals are familiar with. The Bertram Inn has been thoughtfully restored to a perfect balance of atmosphere and comfort. Blending a notable collection of antiques, each room has unique flavor that captures life at the turn of the century. The owner, Bryan Austin, has twice been given by the Town of Brookline Historical Preservationist Awards for projects that beautified Boston"
