The whales love Depoe Bay and Depoe Bay loves the whales!
Depoe Bay is known as the Whale Watching Capital and is fortunate enough to have a pod of gray whales make their residence in the waters off our shores for several months of the year. They can be seen migrating by or feeding and frolicking nearby for 8 months or more of the year. Landlubbers, stay put on terra firma and watch the whales from the Whale Watching Center, the seawall in town or points nearby.
Seafarers, step right outside our door, walk down to the docks and hop aboard a charter boat for group whale watching. Or climb on the zodiac with local whale researcher, Carrie Newell for a personalized and up-close experience with these magnificent creatures. Carrie is one of the foremost authorities on gray whales on the Oregon Coast, has been featured on PBS with Jean-Michel Cousteau and has over 20 years of teaching and research experience.
