"Introduction Walnut Hill is located in Kennett Square along the Red Clay Creek midway between historic Philadelphia and quaint Lancaster County , home of the Amish . Our circa 1840 antique furnished mill house, built by the Chandler family, is on land that was originally granted by William Penn to his daughter Letitia in 1701. The mill was built in the meadow in front of (what is now) Walnut Hill about 1760, and during the Revolutionary War the Queen's American Rangers (a Loyalist unit) camped on the hillside opposite the bed and breakfast site while enroute to the Battle of Brandywine. Our crooked country road, only minutes from Kennett Square , Longwood Gardens , Winterthur and other well known attractions, is popular with joggers, walkers and bikers. It beckons the photographer and those who appreciate the beauty of nature. We offer a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of the work-a-day world, a tranquil setting in the middle of many wonderful attractions. ""You two give hospitality definition"" Guests from around the world enjoy the spirited conversation in the common room or at the breakfast table, a chance to meet and share with interesting people and generally relax and have a fun filled visit. They often say: ""We came as strangers, left as friends"" After twenty years, we continue to thoroughly enjoy sharing our home with our guests. Your hosts are Tom and Sandy Mills. Before opening the bed and breakfast, Sandy had worked as a social worker, has served as a docent at Winterthur for ten years, was a caterer and is well known locally for her culinary delights. Tom recently retired with over thirty years with DuPont and is now a consultant; he also is a retired Air Force navigator . ""You two opened the entire Brandywine Valley. Your suggestions and advice for where to go, what to do and how to get there made the difference for us."" A full, gourmet country breakfast is served before a bay window in the common room. To start their day, guests are offered entrees such as mushroom omelet souffl¨¦ with homemade breads and spreads, apple sauce pancakes with hot apple cider sauce or Sandy's famous French toast. Outside the bay window, while eating breakfast, guests enjoy more than 20 species of birds feeding at stations nearby. Meet other guests for a fun-filled breakfast with stimulating and interesting conversation. Discover what coincidences you share with them. During the spring and summer months, guests enjoy sitting on the porch, listening to the sounds of the countryside and the babbling brook. Cool fall days and winter evenings can be spent in front of the large fireplace in the common room or relaxing in the hot tub. Refreshments are served after your day of touring our lovely Brandywine Valley. We delight in helping guests to enjoy the many attractions and activities within thirty minutes of Walnut Hill; the varied things to do in this area can take five or more days to do.
