" Built in the 1820's, the West River Lodge, a charming country farmhouse, is located in the foothills of the Green Mountains, fifteen miles north of Brattleboro in the scenic West River Valley. Surrounded by mountains and bordered by the West River, the Lodge is an Inn for All Seasons. In the summer, the surrounding countryside with wooded hills, wildlife, quiet streams, invites exploration by horseback, hiking, cycling, swimming or canoeing. Summer theatres, country fairs, auctions, antique shops, flea markets and historic sites are within easy reach. If your game is golf, enjoy nearby courses, including The Brattleboro Country Club, Stratton Country Club or Mt. Snow Country Club. Fall brings brilliant foliage and harvest festivals, apple cider and pumpkin pie. With winter snowfall comes snowshoeing, tubing, horsedrawn sleigh rides and cross country or downhill skiing at nearby Mount Snow, Stratton or Okemo. When spring approches one can follow the sugaring activities that produce Vermont's finest maple syrup. As the days grow longer, our guests frequntly find themselves admiring the lovely gardens blooming about the Lodge. Spring Gardens The Front Porch In the summertime, relax on our inviting front porch with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and grazing horses or loose yourself in a good book on our secluded patio, encircled by rose and flower gardens. If you feel adventuresome, take a stroll down to the river for a swim. Guests can relax in the large comfortable living room by the fireplace or enjoy a sporting game of chess. The Living Room The Dining Room Our country breakfasts are served family style in the warm pine paneled dining room with three large antique tables, comfortably seating 16 guests. The country breakfast menu could include blueberry pancakes, belgian waffles toped with fresh strawberries or frangelica french toast with almonds and whipped cream. The Lodge is available for small dinner parties, receptions and family reunions."
