The Gillum House has a great front porch with a comfortable glider and lots of books to choose from. Stroll on the rail-trail or bike it. For more activities, just tell Host Kathleen Panek your interests and she will give clear directions for your personal tour. Concierge service without the high price. Awaken to the aroma of baking each morning of your stay as Kathleen makes muffins, adapted to be very low fat or fat-free (sugar-free available) for a healthy, delicious breakfast. Enjoy a different mouth-watering entree each morning. Every attempt is made to accommodate special diet requirements. Some of the Special Diets that have been accommodated are: Diabetic; Lactose Intolerant; Vegetarian; Vegan; and no Gluten. The FULL breakfast is served at the time you specify in the morning (between the hours of 4:00 AM and 10 AM with as many as 3 different times requested). The Gillum House Bed & Breakfast has a tea for any tea drinker - choose from over 100 teas currently available - or freshly ground coffee (several of Kathleen's homemade, custom-flavored coffees are also available). The private bath in the Gillum Room features a claw-foot bathtub and a shower; the bath shared by the other 2 rooms features a 60 inch shower. Our facility is kind to "older" knees. There are emergency facilities in every room; there is a chamber pot under every bed! All books on the second floor are for the enjoyment of our guests who are invited to take their choices with them, compliments of your host. Please do not return the books, they are there to be ""stolen"". Dolls made by Margaret Panek are on display in the dining room. The Lois Worcester Collection is in the dining room and throughout the house. Visit 2-Wheel Classics - the art gallery in the Library. Guests rooms are on the second floor. Robes for each guest are to be found in the closet of each room. The Gillum House is a smoke free facility but we have a crystal ashtray on the porch for our guests who smoke. Children are welcomed. Due to allergies of the host, pets are not accepted. Dinner, unless booking a Gillum House Bed & Breakfast package that includes dinner, is available at Jimmy's Diner, the restaurant version of ""CHEERS"". Jimmy's is located 1 mile north of the Gillum House. The Gillum House is ""Green"". The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection had a pilot program on Environmental Management Systems with 15 West Virginia businesses being chosen from all the applicants. The Gillum House was chosen as a participant. Your comfort and pleasure of your stay at the Gillum House will be ensured as we also protect those things that make West Virginia so Wild and Wonderful. Also in our efforts to be aware of the comfort and possible allergies of our guests, The Harris Room is feather/down-free and the laundry detergents used are dye-free and perfume-free. Softeners and softener sheets are not used for that reason, but towels and linens are ""fluffed"" in the dryer. The Gillum house is located 50 feet from the West Fork River Rail Trail, 16+ miles along the scenic winding West Fork River from Shinnston to Fairmont, for bicycles, hikers, and equestrians. Massage appointments, bicycle and helmet use, or stable facilities can be arranged. Off-street cement pad parking for motorcycles and overnight stabling available for horses traveling with their people. "

Driving Directions: From I-79 Exit # 125, turn west at top of ramp, then left onto WV Rt 131 at Exxon station, then drive to traffic light and turn right. Drive 2 blocks and turn left onto Walnut Street. First house on left. Park in front of the house.

Local Area Attractions: Shinnston has only Chapel of Perpetual Adoration in WV. Within 60 miles or less are: 9 covered bridges;7 State Parks;historic sites;hand-blown glass;wineries;8 rail-trails;drive-in theater;golf;everything except an ocean
