21 East Battery Bed and Breakfast  

This privately-owned luxury bed and breakfast is nestled within the urban compound of Charleston¡¯s historic 1825 Edmondston-Alston House, one of the first dwellings constructed along the High Battery facing Charleston Harbor. 21 East Battery was built in 1825 during the tenure of the property's first owner, Charles Edmondston. Later, in 1838 second-owner Charles Alston extensively remodeled the house adding significant Greek Revival details. The rear dependency originally served as a stable and livery for the wealthy rice planter's fine horses and handsome town carriages. The quarters once housed the servants who helped make 21 East Battery one of the city's showplaces of style and gracious entertaining. Today, the property once again welcomes visitors to the city where hospitality has always been an art.

Driving Directions: In Downtown Charleston:
21 East Battery Bed and Breakfast is located at 21 East Battery, at the southern end of the Charleston peninsula. From the Charleston Visitor Center (at Meeting and Ann Streets), turn right (south) on Meeting Street and until it dead-ends. Turn left onto South Battery Street, go two blocks and turn left at the stop sign onto East Battery. 21 East Battery Bed and Breakfast is on the left.

From Charleston International Airport:
From the Charleston International Airport follow I-526 East to I-26 South exit toward Charleston. Follow I-26 and take the East Bay Street exit into downtown. Follow East Bay Street south and it will turn into East Battery. The 21 East Battery Bed and Breakfast is on the right. Estimated travel time: 30 minutes

From I-95 South:
From Interstate 95 South, take the Charleston exit onto I-26 for approx. 65 miles. Take the East Bay Street exit. The street will turn into East Battery. 21 East Battery Bed and Breakfast is on the right. Estimated travel time from I-95 South exit: 90 minutes

From I-95 North:
From Interstate 95 North, take the Charleston (U.S. Highway 17) exit. Follow Highway 17 for approximately 70 miles. Take Highway 17 North across the Ashley River Bridge, stay in the right lane, and take the Lockwood Drive exit ramp. Follow Lockwood Drive turns into Broad Street. Follow Broad Street to East Bay Street. Turn right onto East Bay Street. East bay Street turns into East Battery. 21 East Battery Bed and Breakfast will be on the right.
