The Princess Anne Hotel is Asheville¡¯s premier, historic boutique inn. Built in 1922, the newly renovated hotel continues to serve visitors to Western North Carolina. We have 16 guest rooms, most of them are 2 and 3 room suites with modern amenities including: high speed internet, LCD TVs, fully furnished micro-kitchen, Queen size bed, and zoned heading/cooling.
The Princess Anne Hotel has an enviable location in the Chestnut Hill National Historic District. The Inn is situated on a quiet residential street within walking distance to downtown and is just minutes by car to the Biltmore Estate, Blue Ridge Parkway, and the National Forest. The hotel was built by the father of Johnny Mercer (writer of the classic melody ¡°Moon River¡±) for Miss Anne O¡¯Connell, a charismatic nurse at a nearby tuberculosis clinic. The three story shingle style hotel was completed in January 1924, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Over the years, the hotel has been utilized as a hospital, retirement home, training facility, and an apartment building. Today, the owner and innkeeper, Howard Stafford, an award winning preservationist, has lovingly restored this building. The hotel still retains its original ambiance and charm, with modern amenities to make a memorable stay for our guests.
Asheville and Western North Carolina acquired the descriptive phrase ¡°The Land Of The Sky¡± which derived from a well known book by M rs. Frances Tiernan of Salisbury, writing under the name of Christian Reid. The nickname quickly caught the attention of thousands and spread Buncombe¡¯s fame more widely than ever.
