Amazon EXPLORAMA LODGES has been successfully operating in the Peruvian Amazon for over 41 years. A total of over 4,000 hectares of Private Primary Rainforest Reserve surrounding their lodges is protected by Explorama and can be visited by their guests. Most exciting is a walk on Explorama’s famous Amazon Canopy Walkway, accessible to guests from all five of the company’s Lodges, where the vantage point is unequaled for observing Amazon wildlife and vegetation without the need of any special climbing skills or equipment.

CEIBA TOPS Luxury Lodge, the newest of Explorama’s lodges, is located on the banks of the Amazon River just 25 miles from Iquitos. Ceiba Tops offers the comforts of home in the most luxurious of Amazonian Rainforest settings. At Ceiba Tops, elaborate gardens, a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, water slide, hammock house and the Esmeralda lounge all complement the surrounding exotic environment. Ceiba Tops’ 75 ground level air-conditioned rooms and suites all have private bath with hot water showers. Guided excursions begin each morning and afternoon to learn more about the surrounding rainforest and river.

EXPLORAMA LODGE is located 50 miles down the Amazon River from Iquitos on a small tributary located in the Yanamono Reserve. This palm-thatched Lodge has served visitors for 40 years, with romantic kerosene lamps and torches for light, mosquito-netted beds, and covered palm-thatch walkways leading to the "Tahuampa Bar" and Hammock Houses, as well as to the shared showers and latrine-style toilets. Programs here include extensive hikes in the large Primary Rainforest Reserve adjoining the Lodge with local guides who are experts in the natural history of the area.

On the Napo River, 100 miles from Iquitos, EXPLORNAPO LODGE provides access to the pristine forest of Explorama’s Sucusari Reserve as well as access to the famous Amazon Canopy Walkway. The experience of walking along this famous pathway, high in the trees, more than justifies the trip to this remote location. A visit to ExplorNapo Lodge also provides an opportunity to visit the ReNuPeRu Ethnobotanical Medicinal Plant Garden with over 240 species of Amazonian plants tended by a local shaman and his apprentices who share their knowledge of the healing properties of the plants under their care. Lighting and facilities at ExplorNapo are the same as for Explorama Lodge.

ACTS (Amazon Conservatory for Tropical Studies), a 30 minute walk from ExplorNapo Lodge, opened in 1993 as a result of Explorama’s effort to provide scientists and graduate university students with a location for studies and for scientific research in the Primary Rainforest. ACTS is also the prime location for birdwatching groups from all over the world to the Peruvian Rainforest, as its proximity to the Canopy Walkway allows for pre-dawn hikes to observe the formation of mixed species flocks of birds as they begin their daily search for food. Accommodations and facilities at ACTS are identical to those of Explorama Lodge and ExplorNapo Lodge.

ExplorTambos Camp, the most remote of Explorama’s lodges, is a primitive camp deep in Explorama’s Sucusari Reserve. Built for a maximum of 16 of the most adventuresome guests, the Camp’s sleeping quarters are individual thatch-roofed shelters with mosquito-netted bedding. All meals at ExplorTambos are cooked on an open hearth fire and served in a small palm-thatched, earthen- floored dining shelter. Due to the isolation of this camp, the possibility of observing unique animals, birds and a wide variety of plant and insect life, is much better than at other lodges in this part of the Amazon.
